Hi Folks! As you may know, I am now president of a non-profit, Let Grow, that hopes to get more Free-Range projects in the schools, more kids playing on their own, and more communities (well, even one) to pledge to support kids out and about. And that means that I am now blogging over there.
I dearly hope you will join me. Right now, it’s true, the blog does not look so warm and homey. We are working on it. And, because it is new, it has some bugs. Like, at the moment, the home page is coming up half blank.
Yikes.
But these are growing pains. We just launched a week ago. I have a fantastic partner in crime, Tracy Tomasso, who is our executive director who is awake right now, 12:31 a.m., working to get things fixed, as am I.
Our founding partners are all huge fans of Free-Range Kids, putting their time and money behind the new organization to make it bigger than me in my living room. I’ve had so many ideas for programs and projects and videos these past 10 years. Now I have a team and some support to make them a reality.
So please come over to Let Grow and let’s continue our relationship. It may be rocky for a few more days or weeks, but in the end, it will feel like home again.
And I miss you. — Lenore

Congratulations Lenore! You are an inspiration to all of us. Let us know how we can support you as you change the world.
I think maybe people are a bit confused about the new format, in that we automatically go to the Free Range Kids website but then are directed to the Let Grow one to actually read the articles. I guess my question is: will you be shutting down FRK? If so, perhaps it would be best to do it sooner rather than later, so that there is less confusion, we can starting leaving comments in one place.
I’m sure it will all work out, but perhaps FRK should be archived – for example, comments closed on new posts so everyone has to go to the new place, if that is what you want – or alternatively transition the content from here to over there?
I was wondering what Helen is wondering. Does this mean we should no longer check this site, or direct people to it? I’ll follow instructions; just make them clear. Thanks!
I signed up at Let Grow, but couldn’t find a place to get the email digests, which is my favorite way to connect. I hope that’s there, too.
Congratulations on this next stage!
I’ve signed up. So what will happen with this site? Will you be shutting it down soon?
My biggest question about the news section over at Let Grow is where do I find the RSS feed link?
The only thing I really missed was a way to go directly from one of your (news) articles to the next, but it sounds like there are more important problems to solve first.
“I have a fantastic partner in crime”
I feel like this ties in neatly with our e-mail conversation… (See, that’s another thing – at LetGrow I’m not sure who I’m talking to… Is it still just you who receives the comments, or will other people too and be confused about what the **** I’m on about?)
October 23: “But the benefits of free time, free play are some real world responsibility are hard to dispute. L.”
October 26: “As kids (well, two or three so far) are starting to stay: Let Grow! Lenore”
That’s quite the growspurt, Lenore. Shouldn’t growing be a bit less abrupt? 😛
Maybe start with ‘L’, then the next day ‘Le’, then ‘Len’, until your name is complete and that will be the last post on this site? 🙂
Does this mean free range kids is shutting down to be replaced with lets grow? I like free range kids as it is. Personally I don’t want it to change. I know change is part of life but can’t anything just stay the same.
I agree with Theresa–I really like Free Range Kids. Will it at least stay where it is, so people can read the archived threads?
October 26: “As kids (well, two or three so far) are starting to stay: Let Grow! L”
“Maybe start with ‘L‘, then the next day ‘Le’, then ‘Len’, until your name is complete and that will be the last post on this site?”
That’s a good idea. Have a running countdown of when comments will be closed on this site
Changes are not fun. They can actually quite annoying. Computer changes are a pet peeve of mine. Nevertheless, I urge you to start posting on the new site.
One of the things that we want for children is to start playing outside again. We want them to do things like ride their bike to the store. However, we can’t ask them to step out of their comfort zone if we refuse to step out of ours.
Hi Lenore,
What are your plans for this site’s archives? They are a great resource. Will they remain here?
