Readers: Once in a while, I have to go off Free-Range topic for a sec. Like now. This video had me sobbing. My shirt is actually WET. So I had to share it. It does seem appropriate for the season! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIa563ltg5U]
And here’s the link for how to sign up to be a bone marrow donor. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving! — L.

Goes to show how many people’s lives you affect with a (big) act of kindness! Bone marrow, blood or organ donation.
Very touching video. I signed up to be a bone marrow donor at least 15 years ago. Even got a callback for more detailed testing when I was a close match, but it wasn’t close enough.
I probably need to make sure they know where I live now. That was many moves ago.
I used to be on the marrow regisrty but because i’m on insulin they had to take me off but i like to donate blood as often as i can which reminds me i have to make an appointment i’m feeling a bit full time to go get drained
Too bad they don’t pay people for thier bone marrow the way they do for plasma, because if they did, there would be a much larger supply. It’s considered in poor taste, but the reality is that it would most certainly increase the supply and save lives. It’s nice to believe that a sufficient number of people will go through this process out of the mere kindness of their hearts, but it is reality that more will go through it if compensation is assinged. People could (and many would) continue to donate for free, just as people donate money to any charity, but people who might not otherwise donate might donate in a system that allowed payment.
I attempted to sign up a few years ago and was told that because I had melanoma several I could not donate.
Oops, not sure why the word several is there!
It’s amazing how many people are affected by just one person’s act of kindness.
I would *love* to donate blood and/or anything else. However since I was in western Europe for more than six months since 1980 (I was born there) I am not permitted to do so.
